Featured Fight: Jimmie Rivera versus John Lineker
UFC 219’s featured fight is a substantial bantamweight meeting between well-known brawlers Jimmie Rivera and John “Hands of Stone” Lineker. Both Rivera and Lineker have risen to the upper echelon of the bantamweight division (Lineker previously dominated at flyweight, and Rivera was scheduled to face former champion Dominick Cruz here until an injury shook things up), and the winner of their bout will be in an ideal position to fight for the belt next.
As was said, both men love to strike, but the critical difference between them is that Lineker often resolves to brawl, while Rivera won’t hesitate to secure a takedown to win a round and, in turn, win a fight. This stylistic variation is reflected in their records: Rivera has won twenty straight matches, including five UFC victories over the likes of Urijah Faber and Thomas Almeida, while Lineker dropped a decision to current bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw in December 2016, as well as a decision to Ali Bagautinov and six previous career losses.
Lineker can land one of his vicious punches, but it’s likely that Rivera will find a way to do what he does best—win—at UFC 219.
