UFC Fight Night 111 Breakdown: Holly Holm vs. Bethe Correia

UFC Fight Night 111 is set to go down in Kallang, Singapore on 17 June at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. And I’m sure fans in Singapore have been waiting a long time for this. The stacked card features exciting fights like Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski takes on Marcin Tybura and Dong Hyun Kim versus Colby Covington as well as the comeback of many compelling competitors including Tarec Saffiedine, Rafael Dos Anjos, Takanori Gomi, Jon Tucker, and many, many more!

Notably, Undefeated #1 Ranked Pound for Pound Female MMA Fighter in South Korean and Bantamweight Superstar Kim Ji Yeon will battle the “Bullet” and Finisher Lucie Pudilová. Next, two undefeated’s will collide. Carls John “Golden Boy” de Tomas will put his 8-0 record on the line against and another undefeated challenger and Submission Specialist Naoki Inoue who is riding high with a 10-0 record. As they say in boxing, “Someone’s “O,” has got to go.” Also, knockout artist Dong Hyun Kim— who has won seven of his last eight fights——will lock horns with high-level American Top Team product Colby Covington in a pivotal welterweight affair that will put Covington in the rankings of the Welterweight Division.

In the featured bout of the evening, veteran and fan-favorite Andrei Arlovski will clash with Polish finisher Marcin Tybura. These two heavyweight titans have finished 33 fights combined! And very few have gone to a decision. MMA fans won’t want to miss this one! This battle is “Do or Die,” for Andrei Arlovski, who is riding low on a four-fight losing streak. Could he turn this massive deficit around on Saturday?

Holm-Correia: Breakdown and Prediction

UFC Fight Night 111’s main event is a very compelling and important bantamweight fight between former titleholder Holly Holm and former title challenger Bethe Correia that has top contender implications. Both women are hard hitters and well-conditioned and are both looking to get into the win column on Saturday.

Holly Holm knocking out Ronda Rousey with Head kick
Holly Holm knockout victory over Ronda Rousey at UFC 193!

Both of these Bantamweights love to strike, especially Holm Holly who got her start in MMA after transitioning from the sport of Boxing. Who is a product of one of the most elite gyms in the sport of MMA: Jackson-Wink MMA Academy. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Holm’s most notable win was her devastating knockout victory over Former UFC Champion Ronda Rousey. Now, Holm is a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu blue belt but loves to keep it on the feet. Holm does have the skills on the ground if she needs it. Holm is a well-rounded fighter, and she is good at what she specializes in; the stand-up game.

Holm is a tall, rangy striker who usually uses her great footwork to her advantage. Her 5’8″ height and her significant 70″ reach. Make this fight a very advantageous one. Holm likes to utilize her kicks and striking combos and keep her opponent away with the occasional oblique kick. Even though Holm may have some advantages over her opponent, she must be careful not to underestimate her opponents striking skills, most notably, Correia’s left and right hooks on the inside.

Granted, Holm has finished seven of her ten wins by knockout. But unfortunately, Holm has fallen short in her last three outings. Losing by rear-naked choke and two unanimous decision losses. She needs to turn things around in this fight. Holm needs to get out of her comfort zone and just let loose and throw caution to the wind.

Bethe is a fearless brawler
Bethe Correia dominating Shayna Baszler at UFC 177!

For Brazilian Standout Bethe Correia, fans can expect her to come out ready to throw hands. This fighter is not afraid to strike. Correia is a fearless brawler with a granite chin as you’ve seen in her last fight. Even though her wins end mostly in decisions, she usually picks up in the later rounds and gets better as the match goes on. And she’s only been knockout once in her mixed martial arts career. The fatal knockout she endured against Ronda Rousey was a stunner to Correia’s ego with all that trash talk leading up to the fight.

In Correia’s last fight, she and her opponent Marion Reneau fought to a majority draw. Which I believe Correia won. Correia showed real heart in that fight, weathering the storm after getting head kicked in the 3rd round. Up until that head kick, I had Correira winning the first 2 rounds. Nevertheless, Bethe Correia has made some changes in her camps. Correia has trained at American Kickboxing Academy based in San Jose, California and also has appointed a karate instructor in her camps. Noticeably, Bethe Correia has taken her MMA career seriously and making necessary changes to better her Mixed Martial arts craft. But will it be enough to stop Holly Holm who desperately needs a win?

With all that said, it seems that Holly Holm has all the advantages in this match. Height, Reach and years and years of boxing experience that she has brought into the MMA World and could get a TKO victory in the 3rd round.

Hardcore MMA fans, won’t quite know for sure what to expect and whether this breakdown and predictions are precise until UFC Fight Night 111 airs on June 17, live from Kallang, Singapore. But make no mistake, as we all know, anything can happen in this sport. If the main event wasn’t enough, the fight card is also stacked with a lot of interesting and exciting fights and every MMA fan should tune in to watch!

Thanks for reading and enjoy the fights this weekend!
